What is Alipay?
Alipay is a mobile phone based payment method in China. It is one of the most popular payment methods in China, with over 1 billion users for payments. It is expanding rapidly also outside of China in many countries in Asia and is used both home and abroad.
Alipay is also an ecosystem of financial services (transfers, payments, loans, amongst others). Alipay is developed by Alibaba, the Chinese eCommerce giant.
The advantages of offering Alipay via Smart2Pay is to cover a large part of the Chinese market with a very high conversion in a frictionless (including in app) one click payment flow with minimal steps, with the most advanced encryption technology for secure transactions, all without needing a local entity. As always Smart2Pay supports refunds on the payment methods like Alipay.
How does Alipay work?
Alipay is offered by Smart2Pay on desktops and on mobile phones.
For desktop and H5 (mobile website) the customer selects Alipay as payment method on the merchant check out page. A QR code is automatically generated and displayed. The customer opens the Alipay app and scans the QR code. The payment is then confirmed by the customer and completed. The customer is redirected back to the merchant site.
For in app payments Smart2Pay offers a mobile SDK. The customer confirms the payment via Alipay in the merchant’s app (or site). Automatically the Alipay app opens after this and displays the transaction details. The customer then approves the payment via PIN or touch ID and continues in the merchant’s app like playing a game depending on the merchant type.
